Blue Dart Frog Tadpole!

Remember the 5 baby Blue Dart Frogs?
Well they have grown and proliferated! Here's one carrying a tadpole on its back to drop it into water. They lay the eggs inside the coconut shell that it's sitting on, then move them when they hatch.

The Call of the Frog

Tonight's Visitor

A gray tree frog is hanging out on the deck railing, calling out for a mate. I took a short video of him (see the post above) but it's blurry and a little dark.

Wood Frogs

This one was spotted heading toward the frog party going on in the back pond. They have been quite noisy lately, but it sounds like SPRING! Hurray!
(and I just heard the first Peeper last night. I love that sound.)
Oh, and I know that Macrae's boots are on the wrong feet, but he is in the "I can put shoes on all by myself" stage.

Summertime visitors

This wood turtle was spotted on the path to the manure pile. Acrid said that she might have laid eggs in it!
I thought this toad looked cool. Maybe it is a morph?
This garter snake came out  for a drink on the holly bush.

Eastern Gray Tree Frogs:

I love the sound of these guys.

Baby toads galore!

Remember the tadpole post? Well here are the toads...

...here, there, and everywhere!
Aren't they adorable?
Ok, so maybe you have to be a frog/toad lover (hi Sara), or a mom to think these are cute (aren't ALL babies cute, moms?).
....and then there are some of you thinking that you would have to be a Mommy TOAD to think they are cute.
Oh well.
Ruby is trying to be as patient as possible with their growth, and looking forward to feeding them her swarm of gnats and flies (which I must say are not too bad this year...yet).

The night watch toad:

This little guy sits at the opening of the garage door at night and keeps the bears out. I will ask Acrid Hermit if he knows the toad's secret to keeping the bears away. (Is that a mosquito in front of him? Maybe his midnight snack!)

(June 26th): Acrid Hermit tells me that, "The toad was hopping through the woods on an early spring day when he heard a half-hiberbnating bear complaining about the bugs buzzing in his ears. Seeing the toad, the bear begged him to eat the bugs, and the toad said, 'I'll do you this favor if you promise that you will do one for me.'"
